Uganda Sends Illegal Migrants Back To India

Darpan News Desk IANS, 25 Aug, 2015 12:16 PM
Uganda has sent back all Indians who were trafficked into the country after being promised jobs in South Africa, media reports said.

"The last group of 10 people was flown back home on Sunday," Uganda's Daily Monitor newspaper quoted Moses Binoga, coordinator of anti-human trafficking department as saying.

"The last group is on the way back to India. However, the suspect who trafficked them is still on the run. We believe he is still in the country but in hiding. We are still hunting him," Binoga said.

Last week, 23 victims arrived in India. They were among the hundreds of Indians who were stranded in Uganda for over two months.

Earlier this month, over 100 Indians were arrested after they were duped by two agents who brought them from India after being promised jobs in South Africa.

The Indians stayed in a hotel in Kampala for a month, waiting for an agent. Soon, they were on the verge of starvation.

The stranded group later appealed to the Indian embassy in Uganda for help.
