Kelowna man Amar Singh wins Guaranteed Prize of $1 million in Lotto 6/49 draw

  • Kelowna man Amar Singh wins Guaranteed Prize of $1 million in Lotto 6/49 draw

After discovering he had won the Guaranteed Prize of $1 million in the Lotto 6/49 draw on May 20, 2021, Amar Singh admits he had a difficult time convincing his wife that his win was real.

The Kelowna man had purchased the winning ticket on PlayNow.com. When he discovered the extra zeroes in his PlayNow.com account, the first thing he did was call up his wife.

“She had said, ‘No you didn’t win, you were probably playing a demo,’” Singh explained. “She just kept saying ‘No, no, it was a demo win’; she didn’t believe me at all.”

Even after Singh proved to his wife that he was B.C.’s newest millionaire, he still had difficulty coming to grips with the life-changing news.

“I was shocked and speechless. I had to check again on my cell phone and on my computer just to believe it.”

On top of his plans to help buy a new home in Kelowna, Singh said he’s dreaming of taking his family on a vacation once it’s safe to do so again.

“We haven’t gone on a family vacation in 10 years,” said Singh. “Our kids are growing up, and we want to go somewhere for a week or two weeks. We’ve always wanted to go to the Bahamas, or Costa Rica, somewhere warm where we can relax.”

So far in 2021, B.C. lottery players redeemed more than $38 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49. Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 7:30 p.m. (PST).
