Kickstart Your Spring Cleaning

Darpan News Desk, 19 Mar, 2019 11:19 PM

Spring is just around the corner, and with that comes the task of transitioning your home into a new season.

Keeping organized during the winter months can be difficult; being confined indoors with little access to a backyard minimizes the amount of storage space homeowners are able to utilize and enables clutter to pile up. With the snow beginning to melt and warmer weather on the horizon, spring is the perfect time to start to tidy up and refresh your living space.

Looking to maximize your space for the new season? The team at JUSTJUNK, a junk removal company with franchises across the country, offers the following advice to help you organize your home so that you can enjoy the warmer weather when finally comes.

    1) Get Rid of the Big Stuff
Clunky objects, inside and out, can be an annoying source of clutter. If they’ve been inherited and sitting around for a while, they may also be a source of negative space. Like the pool table in the basement, or hot-tub - unused for the third year in a row - or the dilapidated shed, it may be time for them to go. In these cases, quickly saying goodbye to larger items in one go will be the easiest way to open up space.

    2) Go Minimalist
It’s all the rage these days to live minimally; reduce your trinkets so you can live a cleaner and clearer life. Studies have shown that living in a constantly clean space - or well organized one – increases pleasure and minimizing clutter makes people feel happier overall. It might be hard to dispose of sentimental items, but a minimalism prizes experience and places less of an emphasis on “stuff” holding on to our memories. Shifting to a minimal lifestyle to transition into spring means you’ll have more time for fun this summer!

    3) Share What You Can’t Let Go!
We’re taught the importance of sharing as children, and through adulthood this still rings true. When we decide to de-clutter or go minimalist, there will be things that are tough to let go of. So, why not share them? Gather with friends and share used books, movies and board games. Rather than collecting these items within your home, use libraries - many of them have accessible music, video games and TV shows along with books.

    4) De-Cluttering Day
March break is on the horizon! It’s exciting for the kids to have the time off, but what better way for the entire family to spend time together than to get tackle spring cleaning as a team. Make a plan and stick to it: you and the kids can have the house cleared and ready for family fun before the break officially even starts.

    5) Get Out There!
What better way than to keep the house clean than to not be in it? It’s getting to be the perfect time to get outdoors and explore with the kids. Small hikes, getting the bikes ready, prepping for yard work - if you’re enjoying time outdoors this creates additional space within the home to relax.
