Surrey's Jaswinder Bassi wins $1-Million Maxmillions Prize Lotto

Darpan News Desk BCLC, 01 Aug, 2023 12:04 PM
  • Surrey's Jaswinder Bassi wins $1-Million Maxmillions Prize Lotto

Jaswinder Bassi said the news of last week’s $35-Million Lotto Max Jackpot winner prompted him to check the ticket he had for the same July 25, 2023 draw, uncovering he too was a winner of a $1-million Maxmillions prize.

The Surrey resident purchased the ticket on a whim from the 7-Eleven on 120th Street in Delta in hopes of “travelling a little more” if he won and was at home when he discovered the good news.

“I woke up on Wednesday morning and I looked at my phone and saw that someone in Kamloops won $35 million so I figured I better check my ticket,” Bassi recalled. “I checked it on the Lotto! App and saw that I won $1 million. I was relieved!”

Bassi couldn’t wait to tell his wife and kids.

“My wife was very excited and didn’t believe me at first. My kids are going to decide what we should do to celebrate.”

Bassi said he is “so excited” about his windfall and plans to take his wife on a European vacation, thanks to his prize.

“She has always wanted to see Europe and now we can make that a reality,” Bassi exclaimed.

So far in 2023, B.C. lottery players redeemed more than $179 million in winnings from Lotto Max.

The largest lottery prize ever won in B.C. was a $70 million Lotto Max jackpot, won in September 2021.
