Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 24 Apr, 2026 09:06 AM
  • 10 properties under evacuation alert due to nearby wildfire in B.C.

An evacuation alert has been issued in British Columbia's Cariboo region for a handful of properties as a wildfire burns out of control at the start of the province's wildfire season.

The Xeni Gwet’in First Nation, the Tsilhqot’in national government, and the Cariboo Regional District issued the alert late Thursday covering 10 properties at risk from the Konni Lake wildfire burning out of control about 200 kilometres southwest of Williams Lake.

The alert, which warns residents to prepare to leave on short notice, covers  approximately 465 hectares of land

Wildfire BC's website says the Konni Lake wildfire was last measured at 215 hectares and is considered a "moderately vigorous surface fire."

As of Friday, there were 22 active wildfires in the province, with five fires listed as out of control.

Category 2 and 3 open fires and associated equipment and activities are now prohibited across the entire Cariboo Fire Centre including the Tsilhqot'in title area.
