Richmond RCMP seeking help in locating suspect in hit & run of an 11-year old child

Shortly before 9 a.m. on Wednesday frontline Richmond RCMP officers responded to the area of No. 1 Road and Tucker Avenue after reports of an 11-year old boy being struck.

The boy was pushing his bicycle in a marked pedestrian crosswalk and struck by a gray minivan. This minivan then proceeded to sideswipe another vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The child received non-life threatening injuries but was transported to hospital. He has since been released. No other parties were reportedly injured.

The suspect allegedly driving the gray minivan was described as an Asian woman, possibly in her 50’s, with a bob-style haircut. The gray minivan may have light damage present.

Richmond RCMP is actively investigating this disturbing collision and is very interested in locating the driver of this vehicle. We would greatly appreciate the public’s assistance in this matter.

The federal government plans to send cheques of up to $650 to qualifying low- and medium-income households to help pay for children's dental needs through the same platform used for Canada Child Benefit payments. That is run through the Canada Revenue Agency, which the experts suggest could be a problem because many low-income families are less likely to file tax returns.

Arrests are 'futile' to curb crime: B.C. minister
Murray Rankin says fighting crime by arresting more people is "futile," and the government is instead considering a range of options to keep people safe. Opposition Liberal Leader Kevin Falcon told the legislature that the government has continued a "catch-and-release" policy where repeat offenders are quickly freed from custody despite being accused of violent crimes.
