Burnaby RCMP’s Traffic Services officers are continuing their investigation into a collision that occurred this morning.

At 08:30 a.m., police received a report that a 13-year-old female pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle close to the intersection of Kensington Avenue and Union Street in Burnaby.

The pedestrian was transported from the scene with serious injuries. The driver remained at scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Police are still working to determine what occurred and are asking for witnesses to come forward. If you witnessed this collision taking place or if you have dashcam video and were in the area of Kensington Avenue and Hastings Street between 08:15 a.m. and 09:00 a.m. then please contact police.

Burnaby RCMP is continuing to ask that drivers and pedestrians think about safety when in school zones.

Driving below the posted limit of 30 km/h allows drivers the reaction time to slow or stop should anyone unexpectedly step onto the road.

Additionally, police are asking that if you have young people in your care that you remind them of the importance of crossing at marked crosswalks.
