Health officials in British Columbia say it's encouraging to see a steady increase in the number of people who are protected with a COVID-19 vaccine as cases decline.

There are 165 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 145,695 cases in British Columbia. The daily 7 day drops to 175, from 177, still the lowest since October 20, nearly 8 months ago.

There are currently 2,051 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. Of the active cases, 203 individuals are currently hospitalized, 57 of whom are in ICU.

New cases by health authority Coastal - 30, Fraser - 78,  Island - 10,  Interior - 42, and  Northern - 5

In total, 3,685,340 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C., 345,508 of which are second doses.

Over the past 24 hours, 0 people have died in BC from COVID-19.

BC administered 49,545 total COVID vaccine doses on Monday. Of those, 31,262 were second doses. We should expect now more second doses than first each day.

People who received a first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine have the option of getting the same vaccine for the second shot or an mRNA vaccine such as the one made by Pfizer-BioNTech.

Henry and Dix say there's no wrong choice to make and there are plenty of vaccines at pharmacies and mass clinics.
