Police in Surrey say two men have been charged with multiple offences including assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death, and unlawful confinement after an incident at a city centre apartment on Monday.

They say officers responded to a call from a resident at an apartment on Central Avenue who said that two men were acting violently and had a gun.

Police say an officer arrived and both men were taken into custody, and a search warrant was later executed and a black B-B gun was found.

They say the men have since been charged by the B-C Prosecution Service, and their first court appearance was scheduled for this morning.

Global Affairs Canada says the federal government respects Mexican sovereignty and has no intention of intervening in that country's internal affairs around proposed constitutional reforms. The comments come a day after Mexico's president told reporters Tuesday he has put relations with the Canadian and U.S. embassies "on pause" because of comments from the two countries about a proposed judicial overhaul.
