    • 2 new mass-timber courses to start at BCIT

    Two new mass-timber courses are slated to begin in the fall at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

    In addition, the province is providing 3.3-million-dollars to the school for the creation of a mass-timber training hub at B-C-I-T's Burnaby campus.

    The provincial government says once the hub is completed, all mass-timber training courses will be housed there.

    Trade Minister Jagrup Brar says partnering with B-C-I-T will help ensure B-C has enough workers with the right skills to construct buildings of the future with mass timber.

    Supporting mass-timber construction brings the Province closer to its goal of building a more sustainable, inclusive and innovative economy for people, businesses and communities throughout B.C.

    Forests Minister Bruce Ralston says the goal is to build a stronger, more resilient forest industry with value-added products such as mass timber, plywood, veneer, panelling and flooring. The statement says the program will be restricted to those facilities that have minimal or no forestry tenure and are approved as a value-added manufacturer.
