2 shootings in Maple Ridge a day apart

Darpan News Desk Ridge Meadows RCMP, 02 Aug, 2023 03:48 PM
  • 2 shootings in Maple Ridge a day apart

Ridge Meadows RCMP is investigating a report of shots fired at a residence in Maple Ridge that took place early this morning.

On Wednesday, at approximately 2:15 a.m., several Ridge Meadows RCMP frontline officers immediately responded to reports of multiple shots fired in the 12000 block of Garden Street in Maple Ridge. Within minutes, members were on scene at the residence and searched surrounding areas. No injuries were sustained in this incident.

Ridge Meadows RCMP Investigative Support Team (IST), Integrated Forensics Identification Services (IFIS) and Integrated Police Dog Services (IPDS) all attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

Several police teams, including the Serious Crime Unit (SCU) and Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), are actively engaged and supporting this investigation, states Sergeant Brad Gibson of the Ridge Meadows RCMP Serious Crimes Unit. Police are also not ruling out that this shots fired incident may be related to the shots fired incident that occurred early morning on August 1, 2023, even though there is no evidence to substantiate that they are connected at this time. Police are continuing to investigate all avenues.

As this investigation is active and ongoing, the public can expect a police presence in the area as officers continue to complete neighborhood canvassing. No further information is available at this time.

Incidents of gun violence are taken very seriously by the Ridge Meadows RCMP, states Corporal Julie Klaussner, Media Relations Officer at the Ridge Meadows RCMP. With two shots fired incidents in two days, we remain steadfast in our commitment to public safety in our community."

Police are seeking further witnesses, video surveillance and dashcam footage of this incident, specifically in the immediate surrounding areas of Brown Avenue, Garden Street and 223 Street from 1:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.
