2 Women Wearing Hijabs Accosted Allegedly Verbally, Physically Harassed On Toronto Subway Train

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 19 Nov, 2015 11:02 AM
TORONTO — The Toronto Transit Commission says two women wearing hijabs have been accosted on a subway train.

Spokesman Brad Ross says two men and a woman made abusive comments and suggested the women were terrorists in the incident Wednesday evening on a train at a downtown subway station.

Ross says one of the women was pushed.

He says the TTC is working with Toronto police to identify "these cowards" who fled the train after a witness activated the emergency alarm on the train.

He says statements by all three — the victims and the witness — were given to police.

Ross says he has no information on any other similar incidents on the TTC, adding that the transit system "is, and must remain, safe and secure for all who use it."

"The TTC condemns this behaviour and racist act utterly and completely — there are no words, frankly, that are strong enough," Ross said in an email.
