2020 Community Sport Champion Nominations Now Open

    The 2020 Community Sport Champion Recognition Program will celebrate those making organized sport more accessible for athletes with a developmental or physical disability.


    Five grants of $5,000 will be awarded to individuals and organizations who work to break through barriers, including the sport pathways of participation, coaching, administration, and leadership.


    Nominees are identified through the call for applications, which opens today and runs through January 24, 2020. Find full criteria, rules, and regulations


    Applications will be reviewed by a Community Sport Advisory Panel and five recipients will be chosen. Those selected will be supported with a ‘one time’ grant to help them continue and extend their work.


    Finalists will be notified by February 15, 2020 and recognized in March 2020, in celebration with the 10 Year Anniversary of the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.


    Vancouver Community Sport Hosting Grant


    The Community Sport Champion Recognition Program is an annual Vancouver Community Sport Hosting Grant that recognizes and celebrates citizens who are making sport accessible in our community.


    This program offers grants to advance the efforts and accomplishments of residents and organizations who deliver sport and physical activity to make a positive impact in our community, while aligning with City Council’s key priority areas, including but not limited to, gender equity, reconciliation, and affordability.


    Key dates

    December 10, 2019 – applications open

    January 24, 2020 – application deadline

    February 15, 2020 – finalists notified

    March 2020 – recognition and announcement
