Canada’s agricultural industry gathered to officially welcome six outstanding individuals into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame. John Anderson, Dori Gingera-Beauchemin, Gaétan Desroches, the late Joe Hudson, Dennis Laycraft and Dr. Peter Sikkema were formally inducted at a special ceremony in Victoria, BC.

“We are thrilled to have inducted six remarkable individuals who have made long-lasting contributions to many different facets of Canada’s agri-food sector,” says Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame Chair Phil Boyd. “Each has left their own unique legacy on the industry – congratulations and thank you to our inductees."

John Anderson is an innovative entrepreneur and international business leader who has dedicated his 50-year career at global food business Oppy to transform how fresh produce is sourced and delivered across Canada, and beyond. Through his enduring vision for sustainable practices and a commitment to excellence, John leaves a remarkable legacy at Oppy and for the future of Canadian agriculture. John lives in West Vancouver, BC and was nominated by the Honourable Wally Oppal. Find out more about John.

Dori Gingera-Beauchemin is a respected leader and unwavering advocate who was instrumental in fostering the sustainable development of Manitoba’s agriculture and food sector. With remarkable leadership and dedication, and a deep commitment to agriculture, Dori leaves her unique and lasting mark on a wide array of Canada’s agriculture industry. Dori lives in Ile Des Chenes, MB and was nominated by Emerging Ag Inc. Find out more about Dori.

Gaétan Desroches is a visionary leader in Canada’s agri-food sector who modernized the country’s largest agricultural cooperative, laying the foundation for a more innovative, resilient and sustainable sector for Quebec and Canada. A pivotal figure in the Quebec and Canadian agri-food sector, Gaétan led with his characteristic openness, integrity and honesty to leave a lasting legacy for the prosperity of farm families. Joe Hudson was the architect of one of Canada’s most successful agri-food businesses, transforming Canada’s egg sector with his vision for a vertically integrated model. From humble beginnings and a few chickens, the late Joe built Burnbrae Farms into a leading pillar of Canadian agribusiness and a household name that continues to thrive with the subsequent generations, thanks to the legacy he established. Dennis Laycraft is a lifelong champion of Canada’s beef industry who has made an indelible mark by guiding the sector through many challenges and opportunities to be positioned for growth, resilience and profitability. A gentleman and a visionary, Dennis consistently brought his brand of inspiring leadership and commitment to a lifetime of strengthening Canada’s beef sector for the entire value chain. Dennis lives in Calgary, AB and was nominated by the Canadian Cattle Association. Find out more about Dennis.

Dr. Peter Sikkema is an internationally respected weed scientist who dedicated his career to developing practical weed management programs for farmers during his tenure at the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus. An exceptional researcher, educator and communicator, Peter leaves an incredible legacy grounded in his lifelong drive and unwavering commitment to develop new weed management programs for farmers. Peter lives in Ridgetown, ON and was nominated by Grain Farmers of Ontario. Find out more about Peter.

The Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame Association (CAHFA) honours and celebrates Canadians for outstanding contributions to the agriculture and food industry. Portraits are on display in the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame Gallery located at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. The CAHFA also publicizes the importance of inductee achievements to Canada.
