21 year old pedestrian in hospital with life threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Burnaby

Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) has assumed conduct of a collision in the 6600 block of Hastings Street that has sent one pedestrian to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 11:26 p.m., Burnaby RCMP frontline officers came upon a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle in the 6600 block of Hastings Street in Burnaby. A 2019 white Ford Edge was travelling east-bound on Hastings Street when it struck a lone pedestrian crossing the roadway.
The 21-year-old male pedestrian was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the white Ford Edge remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team is working to determine the circumstances of the crash.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who may have dash cam video while travelling on Hastings Street near Sperling Avenue in Burnaby from 11:00 p.m. to midnight on May 22, 2022 to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
The two investigations are not connected and criminality is not believed to be a factor in either death. Both investigations have been turned over to BC Coroners Service. The families of the deceased men have been notified.
An inquiry commission has received a six-month extension to file its final report into money laundering in British Columbia. A statement from the Commission of Inquiry into Money Laundering in B.C. says the provincial government has approved a deadline extension to May 20 from Dec. 15.
There are currently 3,061 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 211,202 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 295 individuals are in hospital and 112 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.
The government now says there are still recipients who owe some or all of the $2,000, specifically those who were not entitled to the aid or didn't collect CERB for at least 20 weeks.
Three sources from industry and government say the message was delivered Wednesday as the other two companies competing for the $19-billion contract — U.S. defence giant Lockheed Martin and Swedish firm Saab — were told they met the government’s requirements.
The provincial government says the section of Highway 1 between Chilliwack and Abbotsford has been cleared to reopen and that will connect the Lower Mainland to Highway 3 as major road routes continue to be rebuilt from last week's floods.
