22-Year-Old Man Shot And Killed In Surrey, B.C.

Darpan News Desk, 09 Nov, 2018 12:38 PM

A 22-year-old man is dead in the latest shooting death in Metro Vancouver.

The victim was found outside a home on 70A Ave. near 142 St. in Newton just north of Georges Vanier Elementary School at about 1:30 a.m. Friday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called to the scene overnight and set up a tent in the driveway of a home. Authorities haven't confirmed what connection the victim had to the property, if any.

“The individual has been identified and I have no information to suggest that he is known to police,” Sgt. David MacDonald said.

Investigators spent hours searching the area for evidence and canvassing for witnesses, haven’t yet said whether this was a targeted shooting or if the man lived at the home.

Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum has issued a statement, saying the latest gun violence further emphasizes the need for the City of Surrey to have its own police force.

The taped-off home is less than a block from Georges Vanier Elementary School and across the street from a daycare.

Another man, Sumeet Randhawa, was shot and killed near another school in Surrey on Oct. 11. The 30-year-old's body was found about 200 metres from Martha Jane Norris Elementary.
