25 year-old arrested for groping in Vancouver

Police in Vancouver say a 25-year-old man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to groping women who had been walking in the downtown area in 2023.

Sex crimes officers began investigating that spring after a series of reports from women saying they had been assaulted near B-C Place stadium and Rogers Arena.

Police say they released images of a suspect and tips from the public led police to identify the man, who was arrested and charged with four counts of sexual assault.

They say Hussein Al-Shami pleaded guilty to sexual assault and he has been handed a conditional discharge with 30 months of probation.

Overnight shooting in Newton

Police in Surrey are investigating an overnight shooting at a home in the Newton neighbourhood. They say that shortly after one this morning, a resident on the 71-hundred block of 128th street reported coming home to find several gunshot holes in the side of their house.
