3 men arrested and a loaded gun seized thanks to help from the public: Surrey RCMP

  • 3 men arrested and a loaded gun seized thanks to help from the public: Surrey RCMP

Surrey RCMP’s Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) arrested three men and seized a loaded firearm with help from bystanders.

On August 21, 2021, the Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 16800-block of 60 Avenue after observing the driver of an SUV violating the BC Motor Vehicle Act. The SUV failed to stop, and fled from police at high rate of speed. Additional SGET officers converged on the area, as the driver and two passengers abandoned the SUV in traffic and began to run away.

As officers left their own vehicles and pursued the men on foot, they were assisted by bystanders who provided crucial information on suspects’ direction of travel. All three suspects were arrested and further investigation led to seizure of a loaded handgun. All three of the men were identified by police and have ties to gang activity in the lower mainland.

The Investigation is ongoing. Charges have not yet been laid however; a report will be submitted to the BC Prosecution Service.

Members of our community have made it clear that gang activity is not welcome in Surrey, says Sarbjit K. Sangha, Media Relations Officer for Surrey RCMP. We are grateful for the assistance of the bystanders who witnessed this incident. Working together, we can send a strong message that our city is not a safe haven for criminal activity.

Anyone with information about criminal activity in Surrey can help keep the community safe by reporting it to the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
