As of Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, 85.9% (4,281,608) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 82.1% (4,094,539) have received their second dose.

In addition, 91.4% (4,237,016) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 88.3% (4,094,508) received their second dose and 12% (542,409) have received a third dose.

Also, 91.8% (3,970,376) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 88.8% (3,842,689) received their second dose and 13% (541,702) have received a third dose.

B.C. is reporting 341 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 221,576 cases in the province.

Note: The numbers of total and new cases are provisional due to a delayed data refresh and will be verified once confirmed.

There are currently 2,915 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 216,185 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 220 individuals are currently in hospital and 73 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

The new/active cases include:

  • 83 new cases in Fraser Health
    • Total active cases: 881
  • 61 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health
    • Total active cases: 538
  • 70 new cases in Interior Health
    • Total active cases: 576
  • 29 new cases in Northern Health
    • Total active cases: 262
  • 98 new cases in Island Health
    • Total active cases: 606
  • no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada
    • Total active cases: two (Note: 50 cases are reflected on the BCCDC dashboard due to a data reconciliation and are no longer active.)

In the past 24 hours, nine new deaths have been reported, for an overall total of 2,378.

The new deaths include:

  • Fraser Health: three
  • Interior Health: one
  • Northern Health: two
  • Island Health: three

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks, for a total of five facilities with ongoing outbreaks, including:

  • long-term care:
    • George Derby Centre (Fraser Health); and
    • Ponderosa Lodge (Interior Health)
  • acute care:
    • Ridge Meadows Hospital (Fraser Health); and
    • St. Paul's Hospital (Vancouver Coastal Health)
  • assisted or independent living:
    • Laurier Manor (Northern Health)

From Dec. 1-7, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 57.7% of cases. From Nov. 24 to Dec. 7, they accounted for 63.5% of hospitalizations.

Past week cases (Dec. 1-7) – Total 2,422

  • Not vaccinated: 1,308 (54.0%)
  • Partially vaccinated: 90 (3.7%)
  • Fully vaccinated: 1,024 (42.3%)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Nov. 24 to Dec. 7) – Total 192

  • Not vaccinated: 116 (60.4%)
  • Partially vaccinated: 6 (3.1%)
  • Fully vaccinated: 70 (36.5%)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Dec. 1-7)    

  • Not vaccinated: 164.4
  • Partially vaccinated: 43.1
  • Fully vaccinated: 22.7

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Nov. 24 to Dec. 7)

  • Not vaccinated: 25.0
  • Partially vaccinated: 4.3
  • Fully vaccinated: 1.5

Since December 2020, the Province has administered 8,889,167 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines.
