As of Thursday, March 3, 2022, 90.6% (4,517,958) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 86.3% (4,303,614) have received their second dose.

In addition, 93.3% (4,323,865) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 90.8% (4,206,659) have received their second dose and 55.9% (2,590,923) have received a third dose.

Also, 93.6% (4,049,516) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 91.2% (3,943,913) have received their second dose and 57.9% (2,503,289) have received a third dose.

B.C. is reporting 391 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 349,604 cases in the province.

The new cases include:

  • Fraser Health: 88
  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 43
  • Interior Health: 100
  • Northern Health: 75
  • Island Health: 85
  • People who reside outside of Canada: zero

There are 511 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 79 are in intensive care.

In the past 24 hours, 13 new deaths have been reported, for an overall total of 2,896.

The new deaths include:

  • Fraser Health: four
  • Vancouver Coastal Health: four
  • Interior Health: three
  • Northern Health: two

There has been one new health-care facility outbreak at Parkwood Court (Island Health). The outbreak at Rest Haven Lodge (Island Health) has been declared over, for a total of 21 facilities with ongoing outbreaks, including:

  • long-term care:
    • Menno Home, Cascade Gardens Seniors Community (Fraser Health)
    • Ponderosa, Overlander Residential Care, Three Links Manor, Hillside Village, Polson Long Term Care, Mission Creek Landing, Williams Lake Seniors Village, Sun Pointe Village, Gillis House (Interior Health)
    • Sidney Care Home, Amica on the Gorge, Selkirk Seniors Village, Nanaimo Seniors Village, Berwick House Gordon Head, The Heights at Mt. View, Greenwoods and Parkwood Court (Island Health)
  • acute care:
    • Mission Memorial Hospital (Fraser Health)
  • assisted or independent living:
    • Fischer Place (Interior Health)

From Feb. 23-March 1, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 19.6% of cases.
From Feb. 16-March 1, they accounted for 34.4% of hospitalizations.

Past week cases (Feb. 23-March 1) - Total 3,005

  • Not vaccinated: 483 (16.1%)
  • Partially vaccinated: 106 (3.5%)
  • Fully vaccinated: 2,416 (80.4%)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Feb. 16-March 1) - Total 439

  • Not vaccinated: 128 (29.2%)
  • Partially vaccinated: 23 (5.2%)
  • Fully vaccinated: 288 (65.6%)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 23-March 1)

  • Not vaccinated: 118.0
  • Partially vaccinated: 57.8
  • Fully vaccinated: 52.9

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 16-March 1)

  • Not vaccinated: 33.7
  • Partially vaccinated: 20.7
  • Fully vaccinated: 6.1

Since December 2020, the Province has administered 11,355,173 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines.

On December 2, 2021 a Richmond RCMP frontline officer was attempting to arrest a man for an alleged theft when the man allegedly assaulted the officer. During the attempted arrest, a struggle on the ground ensued. Prior to additional officers arriving, the man was able to break free and run from the area on foot.

Officers found 27 teenagers crammed inside a party bus with a dance floor. The bus had been hired to take the teens downtown for a 17-year-old’s birthday party. VPD officers are now recommending 27 counts of failing to provide a chaperone for passengers under 19, allowing open liquor in a vehicle, and operating with too many passengers.

Suspect sprays bear spray in Pacific Centre Mall and steals purse worth $1800
The robbery occurred around 6 p.m. on December 3, as holiday shoppers were visiting the Dunsmuir Street retailer. The suspect, who was masked, entered the store and deployed a cloud of bear spray, then walked over to a display rack and stole a $1,800 purse, before exiting the store and walking east on Dunsmuir to Seymour Street.

The federal government is extending, and slightly expanding, a travel exemption for Canadians trying to return home from South Africa. Earlier this month, the government lifted a requirement for Canadian travellers from South Africa to have a negative COVID-19 molecular test result in a third country before coming to Canada.

The University of Victoria in British Columbia will not be holding any further in-person exams this month. The school said its instructors have been asked to offer alternative exams online or in another format.
