A prominent Punjabi businessman was shot dead in broad daylight in Surrey, British Columbia. The victim has been identified as Binder Garcha, a 48 year old local businessman and owner of Studio 12 Banquet Hall.

Surrey police officers were called to the scene and they recovered a burned vehicle which is believed to be linked with the shooting.

 

The shooting happened near Ghuman Farms in a rural area around 176 Street and 35 Avenue. Upon arriving the shooting site, the police found that the victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

 

No arrests have been made yet and the motive behind shooting remains undisclosed.

Binder Garcha’s killing has sparked an outrage in the community, with calls for greater public safety and action against rising violence. The community has also expressed concerns against the rising cases of extortion and organised crime in the region.

Last year in October, a 68-year-old Indian-origin businessman was shot dead outside his house in British Columbia province in a suspected “targeted incident".
