Surrey RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in a crash that took place in the Cloverdale area of Surrey.

On Thursday evening at approximately 6:30pm, Surrey RCMP responded to a complaint of a two vehicle collision in the 18200 block of Fraser Highway. Two motorcycles were travelling east bound on Fraser Highway approaching 182 street, when they both lost control and struck the center median.

The 49 year old male rider of one of the motorcycles was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The other rider, a male, suffered serious injuries.

Alcohol and speed have not been ruled out as contributing factors to this collision. The investigation is still in the very early stages.

Fraser Highway was closed in both directions between 184th street and Highway 15 (176th street).

The Nelson Police Board said the two were on snowmobiles about 70 kilometres north of the city when they were engulfed. The Avalanche Canada website rated the avalanche risk at a three on its five-point scale, meaning the danger was "considerable."
