Advisory Remains: Tests On Saskatchewan City's Water Could Be Completed Tuesday

    NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. — The Saskatchewan city of North Battleford says a precautionary drinking-water advisory remains in effect as officials wait for more test results.
     
    Officials earlier said they had hoped the advisory would be lifted by the weekend.
     
    The Saskatchewan Water Security Agency is expected to get final test results on Tuesday.
     
    The city says there have been no reported illnesses and previous tests have shown no water-borne parasites.
     
    The city's 14,000 residents were told Wednesday to boil all water used for drinking, cooking and brushing teeth for at least one minute.
     
    About 8,000 litres of partially treated water spilled into clean water at one of the city's filtration plants for six minutes last Tuesday.
     
    The city believes the water remained in the treatment plant, but officials issued the advisory as a precaution.
     
    More than 7,000 residents became sick in 2001 when a parasite called cryptosporidium entered the city's water supply during routine maintenance of a chemical filter.
     
    Lab tests confirmed 361 cases of illness. No one died.
