  • Almost 30 kilograms of methamphetamine seized in passenger's luggage at YVR airport

Border agents at Vancouver International Airport have seized 29 kilograms of methamphetamine in the luggage of a passenger who was destined for Hong Kong.

Canada Border Services Agency says in a news release that the seizure happened July 18, when officers at the airport found the illicit drug hidden in gift-wrapped packages inside two suitcases.

The agency says the amount of drugs seized in the case is enough for about 150,000 individual doses.

RCMP have since taken custody of the passenger, who is due in court Wednesday.

Charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and exporting a controlled substance have been laid.

The suspect has been identified as a 25-year-old Chinese citizen.
