Analysts expect jobless rate edged up in December

Statistics Canada will release the country's job report for December this morning.

November saw Canada's unemployment rate rise to 6.8 per cent — the highest jobless rate since January 2017 outside of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Analysts at RBC and BMO believe that number will have edged up again in December to 6.9 per cent, as the country's labour market continues to underperform.

The analysts also expect Canada added a modest 10,000 jobs in December.

The labour market survey comes ahead of the next Bank of Canada interest rate decision on Jan. 29.

The B.C. Wildfire Service said Sunday the fire at Boundary Lake was an estimated 5,900 hectares, compared to about 3,000 hectares earlier in the day. The fire at Red Creek hit 2,800 hectares, up from 1,550.

Surrey R-C-M-P say the shooting happened on May 2nd at 8 p-m in a parking lot on 108 Avenue, where officers found two victims who had been shot. One victim, 20-year-old Jayden Prasad, died of his injuries while the other victim recovered.

19 year old pedestrian struck in Burnaby

Burnaby R-C-M-P say the crash happened at 1:50 p-m near Imperial Street and Patterson Avenue, when an eastbound car veered onto the sidewalk and hit the 19-year-old victim. The victim remains in hospital in serious condition, and police have ruled out impaired driving as a factor.

Surrey motor vehicle crash into river

Police say the incident happened at around 1:30 p-m, when a black S-U-V driving southbound near the 3600 block of 152 Street struck another southbound car, left the road, and went into the Nicomeki River.
