Arrest after man drives wrong way

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 24 Dec, 2024 11:47 AM
  • Arrest after man drives wrong way

Mounties are looking for witnesses and dashcam footage of a pickup truck that crossed onto the wrong side of Highway 1 when police tried to pull it over near Hope, B.C., last week.

They say that just before 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 17, BC Highway Patrol attempted to stop a white pickup truck that was speeding in the eastbound lane of the highway.

But police say the driver did not stop and instead used an emergency U-turn lane to drive into oncoming traffic.

RCMP say drivers travelling westbound slowed down and pulled over as they saw the truck, avoiding a crash.

They say officers soon located the truck, which was stolen, and a 36-year-old man who is known to police was tracked down on foot and arrested.

They say he is now facing charges related to dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, and driving while prohibited and are asking anyone with information to reach out.

Cliff Chapman says because B.C. had a hot and dry July, those lightning strikes have the ability and the fuel to start new fires.
