Barinder Singh Dhaliwal Arrested And Charged For Firearm Offences In Abbotsford

The Canadian Press, 02 Dec, 2016 01:33 PM
ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — British Columbia's anti-gang agency says a man allegedly involved in a conflict over drugs in Abbotsford has been arrested and charged with firearms offences.

A release from the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit says 33-year-old Barinder Singh Dhaliwal was charged Tuesday following a traffic stop and brief pursuit in the Fraser Valley city.

The unit says a passenger who ran from a vehicle was arrested and a 9-millimetre handgun was seized but the vehicle got away, though officers believe it was linked to ongoing gang violence in Abbotsford's Townline Hill neighbourhood.

Arrest of the passenger led to the discovery of ammunition and another gun in a Langley home, and several weapons-related charges have now been laid against Dhaliwal.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to make his next court appearance next Thursday.

Police in Abbotsford say two people have died and numerous drive-by shootings have taken place since 2014 because of a conflict between two groups involved in a turf war over drugs.
