  • B.C. homicide team investigates beating death of a 19-year-old man

Homicide investigators are looking into an attack on a 19-year-old man that started in Abbotsford, B.C., then led officers to Crescent Beach in Surrey more than 45 kilometres away.

Officers were called on Jan. 27 to an area on Victoria Street in Abbotsford when witnesses were reporting that a man was assaulted and then taken away in a vehicle.

Police say in a statement that three hours later, the 19-year-old man was found near Crescent Beach with severe injuries.

He was taken to hospital, but died of his injuries on Saturday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says its officers believe the attack was targeted and there's no likely risk to the public.

Homicide spokeswoman Sgt. Freda Fong says investigators will be in the area to look for video and collect evidence that may lead to the killer or killers.

Peter Simonsen says buds on the peach trees at his farm in Naramata, B.C., are already starting to swell early. With plants already budding because of the previous warmth, a year's worth of crops, including peaches and nectarines, were wiped out, along with the vast majority of cherries, and grapes used in B.C. wines. The loss cost hundreds of millions of dollars and left many farmers scrambling to stay afloat.
