  • B.C. Man Dead After Stopping To Help With Crash On Coquihalla Highway
MERRITT, B.C. — A Good Samaritan has been killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the Coquihalla Highway near Merritt, B.C.

RCMP say in a news release that the 35-year-old man from the Lower Mainland stopped to help in an initial collision on Highway 5 about 32 kilometres south of Merritt on Sunday afternoon.

They say the unidentified man was stuck and killed by another vehicle.

A 78-year-old man from Kamloops was airlifted from the scene with critical injuries, and police say his condition had improved by Monday.

Two others were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

RCMP say investigators believe the collision was caused by speed relative to road conditions and sudden changes in road conditions.

A total of six vehicles were involved in the crash, which closed the northbound lane of the highway for 10 hours.
