BC needs to be winter ready

Today marks one year since a sudden snowstorm paralyzed much of the Lower Mainland, trapping many people in their cars in afternoon rush hour gridlock that continued well past midnight.

Two Lower Mainland councillors -- one from Surrey, the other from New Westminster -- called for a "snow summit" after the November 29th storm to better prepare the province, road contractors, and local municipalities for this winter.

Our snow-fighting crew is ready for winter with 15,000 tonnes of salt and more than 90 pieces of equipment. We've begun brining and salting roads as temperatures drop.

The summit never happened and now Linda Annis and Daniel Fontaine want to know whether the province and Metro Vancouver have any solutions.

They say if a summit had been held, a regional plan might be in place this year to avoid future problems.
