SURREY, B.C. — Members of two naval cadet programs in British Columbia are being asked to help police after a former program volunteer was charged with child luring.

The RCMP issued a news release Friday that said Victor Overfield, 27, of North Vancouver was arrested last December. He was charged with one count of child luring and one count of sexual touching

Overfield volunteered with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets in North Vancouver from 2007 to 2012 and with the Navy League Cadets in Vancouver from 2012 until his arrest, police said.

"We encourage any persons who may have been a victim or have any information pertaining to Overfield that would be helpful to the police investigation to contact us," Cpl. Bert Paquet said in the release.

Neither the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets nor the Navy League Cadets could be reached to comment.

Online court documents indicate the charges relate to an incident alleged to have occurred on Nov. 1 of last year in Surrey, located southeast of Vancouver.

Overfield has been released from custody on conditions including no contact with his victim and any other young people, police said.

They said several other unspecified conditions intended to ensure the safety of the public were also in place.

The allegations have not been tested in court.
