Boa Constrictor Missing For A Month In Fredericton Has Been Found

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 30 Sep, 2015 12:38 PM
FREDERICTON — A boa constrictor named Venus that went missing in a residential neighbourhood in Fredericton more than a month ago has been found.

A spokeswoman for the Fredericton Police Department says a homeowner on Albert Street called police Wednesday morning to say a large snake was on their lawn.

Alycia Bartlett said police and animal control officers have captured the snake.

"We were able to confirm that indeed it was Venus, and she was alive and well," Bartlett said.

The Columbian red-tailed boa constrictor escaped from its cage at a nearby residence on August 16.

The snake is about two metres long and weighs about 30 pounds.

Bartlett said the snake has been taken to the pet store where she was purchased.

"They have the appropriate places to secure her in an appropriate cage."

Bartlett said the employees at the store would also check to snake to see if she needs any further care after her month on the lam.

She says police are trying to contact the owner.
