Body Of 19-Year-Old Surrey Swimmer Located In Metro Vancouver's Buntzen Lake

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 19 Jul, 2018 12:42 PM
ANMORE, B.C. — The body of a 19-year-old man has been pulled from a Metro Vancouver lake.

Coquitlam RCMP say the Mountie's underwater recovery team located the victim's body late Wednesday in Buntzen Lake, about 24 hours after he disappeared.

Cpl. Michael McLaughlin says in a news release that the body of the Surrey man was found in about 40 metres of water near the spot where he was last seen.

The BC Coroners Service has scheduled an autopsy, but McLaughlin says there is no indication of foul play.

McLaughlin urges everyone enjoying activities on B.C.'s waterways to exercise good judgement and use an approved personal flotation device.

The B.C. and Yukon Branch of the Lifesaving Society website shows at least 28 drownings have occurred in B.C. this year, with the majority of the victims being young men in their mid-teens to mid-30s.
