Boy, 10, In Desperate Need Of Life-Saving Stem Cell In Burnaby

Darpan News Desk, 21 Sep, 2016 12:27 PM
At just 10 years of age, Aaryan's body is not producing blood cells, leaving him vulnerable to infection and uncontrolled bleeding.

On December 20, 2015 he suffered from internal haemorrhaging that sent him to the hospital where doctors were able to stabilize him within 36 hours of constant blood transfusion and steroids.

There are no potential stem-cell matches within his family so Aaryan is looking to 'OneMatch' of the Canadian Blood Services, to help find a donor.

There is no cure, but a stem cell transplant could save Aaryan’s life. Until we find him a matching donor, he has to undergo frequent blood transfusions. His best chance is a stem cell transplant.

But his rare genetic heritage he has an Afghan father and Vietnamese mother makes finding a donor difficult as each ancestral group has different genetic markers. For every person that we can get to register, it's a chance for Aaryan and similar patients to find a cure and it's a chance for a donor to save a life.

Aaryan's uncle is an RCMP officer in the City of Burnaby and he and his family are desperately asking for your help.

The City of Burnaby and the Officer in-charge of Burnaby RCMP Detachment are supporting the Canadian Blood Services in hosting a public clinic at which anyone aged 17-35 years-old can register and provide a quick cheek swab to potentially save a life.

Please join the stem cell registry by doing a quick swab test and you could potentially be the one giving someone a gift of life. Anyone who wants to be tested is encouraged to visit www.match4aary.com and register.

    • Date: Thursday September 22, 2016
    • Time: 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm
