British Hiker Rescued From A Sheer Mountain Cliff Just Outside Of Vancouver

The Canadian Press, 10 Oct, 2018 10:52 AM
VANCOUVER — A British hiker has been rescued from a sheer mountain cliff just outside of Vancouver.

North Shore Rescue search manager Doug Pope says they got a call from police Monday afternoon that someone was stranded on the edge on a trail called Crown Buttress just above Grouse Mountain.

Pope says the rescuers found the 37-year-old man through the global positioning system co-ordinates of his cellphone.

He says the man was using a hiking app and it indicated there was a trail in the area but it is actually a difficult rock scrambling route.

A helicopter rescue was attempted Monday night but it was called off because of cloud cover, although a member of the rescue team was able to hike down to the man and give him food and warm clothes.

The rescue team went in with a helicopter on Tuesday and was able to get the man off the cliff.

"He was stuck and very scared and he couldn't go up or down," Pope said.
