Burnaby RCMP respond to a report of a fight involving a firearm

Darpan News Desk Burnaby RCMP, 31 Aug, 2020 08:36 PM
  • Burnaby RCMP respond to a report of a fight involving a firearm

On August 30, at 7:15 p.m., Burnaby RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of a fight involving a firearm in the 6900-block of Balmoral Street.

A member of the public called to report seeing two people with baseball bats outside a residence.

When police arrived on scene, witnesses advised that a man, believed to be related to the residence, pointed a firearm at the two unknown parties before they fled the area.

A man subsequently exited the residence and was immediately arrested. Police called for any remaining people in the residence to exit. One man and one woman exited the residence and were also taken into custody.

Police believed that a fourth person remained inside the house but further efforts to call them out safely were ignored.

Due to the potential for a firearm to be in the home with potential suspects still unaccounted for, the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team attended and made entry to the residence to ensure it was safe.

One more man was located inside and taken into custody. The first three people arrested have since been released and the last person arrested remains in custody and will appear in court to deal with outstanding warrants.

"Police take all precautions to ensure the public remain safe," says Corporal Mike Kalanj of the Burnaby RCMP. "All risk factors must be considered and with the aid of the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team, our officers were able to resolve this incident safely."

At this time, there is no risk to public safety.
