Bus attempts to avoid crash with vehicle, collides with traffic pole in Surrey, B.C.

  • Bus attempts to avoid crash with vehicle, collides with traffic pole in Surrey, B.C.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police say there were no injuries after a TransLink Bus attempted to avoid colliding with a vehicle and instead crashed into a traffic pole in Surrey, B.C.

They say officers responded to the scene at the intersection of 132 Street and 88 Avenue around 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police say the investigation is still in its early stages but they have confirmed the out-of-service bus was travelling north on 132 Street when a vehicle heading west from 88 Avenue entered the intersection.

They say, in attempt to avoid a crash with the car, the bus driver steered into the traffic pole before coming to a stop in a residential yard.

Transit police say the intersection was closed briefly after the crash as the pole had fallen onto BC Hydro wires.

They say neither speed nor impairment are believed to be factors in the crash and there have been no reports of damage to residential property.
