Calgary Man Who Jumped In Ottawa River May Be Wanted In London Teen Jeremy Cook's Death: Police

    OTTAWA — Police say they believe a man who jumped into the Rideau River to evade officers in Ottawa and is now missing may be wanted in the death of an Ontario teen killed while trying to get his cellphone back.
     
    Police in London, Ont., say they are investigating the "possibility" that 23-year-old Muhab Sultanaly Sultan of Calgary is the man being sought by Ottawa authorities.
     
    Sultan is wanted for second-degree murder in the slaying of Jeremy Cook, who died on June 14 after using an app to track down his lost cellphone in London's north end. Police are still trying to identify two other suspects.
     
    Ottawa police have been searching for a man who may have drowned in the river after allegedly trying to run down two officers on bicycles.
     
    Police divers ended their search for the man at about 10 p.m. Thursday but said the effort would resume on Friday morning.
     
    Police say the man tried to run over the officers in downtown Ottawa around 4 p.m. Wednesday, leaving one officer with minor injuries.
     
    They say they gave chase in a squad car and ended up near the Rideau River, where they say two suspects jumped out and officers arrested one, but lost the other.
     
    Several hours later police say they were called to the river's edge, where the same man was trying to swim across. But police say the man went under before they could reach him.
     
    Police have contacted the province's Special Investigations Unit, which investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
