Canada Post tables new offers to striking postal workers

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 03 Oct, 2025 08:42 AM
  • Canada Post tables new offers to striking postal workers

Canada Post says it has sent new offers to striking postal workers.

The offer includes the same 13.59 per cent compounded wage increase over four years that it presented as part of its final offer in May to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

It says that due to the Crown corporation's worsening financial situation, it can no longer offer a signing bonus.

Canada Post says the new proposal includes terms to help support the transformation of the postal service that the federal government has initiated.

Workers went on strike last week after the government announced the changes including ending daily mail delivery, closing some rural post offices and moving almost all Canadian households to community mailboxes — moves the union calls a direct attack on workers.

CUPW has said it will carefully review and analyze the offers to determine whether they address the needs of postal workers, their families, and the public who rely on the service.

Demers is one of five speech writers "necessary" for his job, Eby told an unrelated news conference on Tuesday. The value of Demers' contract so far has been $14,000, not "quite as sensational" as the Conservatives are claiming, he said.

Social media has U.S. in its grip and won't let go. The Charlie Kirk killing is a case study
In a microcosm of life today, social media is where Americans have gone to process last week's killing in Utah and is the chief tool his supporters are using to police those they feel aren't offering proper respect. Investigators are probing the time the man accused of killing Kirk, Tyler Robinson, spent in the “dark corners of the internet” — anti-social media, if you will — leading up to when he allegedly pulled the trigger.
