Canada's Dominique Maltais Announces Retirement From Competitive Snowboarding

    VANCOUVER — Canada's Dominique Maltais is retiring from competitive snowboarding.
     
    She battled a back injury last season and has not been able to recover enough to allow her to compete at the highest level.
     
    Maltais won bronze in snowboard-cross at the 2006 Olympics in Turin and won silver at the 2014 Games in Sochi.
     
    She reached the podium 38 times over 77 World Cup starts (15 gold, 13 silver, 10 bronze).
     
    Maltais won the Crystal Globe on five occasions and also won silver (2013) and bronze (2011) at the world championships.
     
    The 36-year-old from Petite-Riviere-Saint-Francois, Que., plans to turn her attention to coaching and her work as a personal fitness trainer.
