Candy Or Cannabis: Can You Tell The Difference?

Darpan News Desk , 24 Oct, 2019 06:46 PM

Take a look at the pictures below. Do you know which are cannabis edibles and which are regular candy, available in stores across the country?

The regular candy is on the left; the cannabis edibles are on the right but they can be easily confused. With the exception of colour, there is little or no difference in the images.

The cannabis edibles pictured above were recently part of a major seizure which was done after a diligent investigation by Burnaby RCMP Frontline members along with Burnaby Drug Section. Other items including cannabis infused potato chips, drinks, cookies and cheesecake were also seized. A news release related to this seizure can be found here.

Today, police are asking for vigilance from members of the public if they are going to be purchasing these types of edibles in the future. Be aware of how similar they can look to regular store bought products and how attractive they may appear to children. If you have edible cannabis products at home ensure they are properly labelled, stored in child-resistant containers that are re-sealed after use and stored out of reach of children.

Cannabis edibles became legal in Canada last week and are expected to be available for purchase in the coming months however police are aware that a number of illegal dispensaries are continuing to sell edibles such as the ones pictured above.

When we seized these drugs we were struck at how similar they looked to store bought products, says Corporal Brett Cunningham with Burnaby RCMP. We’re asking that if you have these kinds of edibles in your home that you are careful where you leave them and ensure they are not confused for non-cannabis products.
