Case Of Teens Accused Of Sharing Intimate Images Of Girls Put Over To November

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 19 Oct, 2016 11:24 AM
  • Case Of Teens Accused Of Sharing Intimate Images Of Girls Put Over To November
BRIDGEWATER, N.S. — The case involving six Nova Scotia teens charged with sharing intimate images of at least 20 high school girls will return to court next month.

Several lawyers were in provincial youth court in Bridgewater today and were granted more time to discuss pretrial issues in what one said could be a complicated and lengthy hearing if it goes to trial.

Two 18-year-olds and four 15-year-olds are facing charges of distributing intimate images without consent and possessing and distributing child pornography.

Crown attorney Peter Dostal said outside court that it is one of the biggest cases in the province involving legislation introduced in late 2013 following the death of Nova Scotia teen Rehtaeh Parsons.

The 17-year-old attempted suicide and was taken off life support after a digital photo of what her family says was a sexual assault was circulated among students at her school in Cole Harbour, N.S.

The matter returns to court on Nov. 28, with potential trial dates set from July, August and September.
