Cat Bleeding From Severed Tail Tossed 'like Trash' At Cranbrook Dump

    CRANBROOK, B.C. — The British Columbia SPCA is appealing for information after a badly-injured and suffering cat was apparently discarded at a dump in Cranbrook.
     
    The black cat, now named Malala, was found with her tail cut off, her legs tied together, bleeding from several wounds and extremely dehydrated and emaciated.
     
    A Good Samaritan took her to the East Kootenay SPCA branch, where she was immediately rushed to a veterinarian for emergency care.
     
    Branch manager Brenna Baker says it horrifies her to think that someone would do something like this to an animal and then toss her away like trash.
     
    The SPCA says the veterinarian cleaned Malala's wounds, performed surgery on her tail and gave her fluids, and now she's recovering in the shelter.
     
    The non-profit organization says the cost of her medical care is expected to reach nearly $1,200 and it is encouraging the public to donate.
