A 56-year-old man has been charged after a fatal crash near Trail, B.C., in October 2022 that killed a mother of four and injured her children. 

BC Highway Patrol says Terry Jackson faces three charges, including the most serious allegation of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

Police say the head-on crash involved Jackson's pickup truck and a Chevrolet Traverse driven by a 34-year-old woman travelling with her four children. 

Officers say in a release that all five in the Traverse were taken to hospital after the crash, but the mother "tragically passed away" and the children were treated for serious injuries before being released. 

Highway patrol says Jackson was charged after an extensive investigation by police. 

The accused is due in court on Feb. 29 in Rossland, B.C.

The BC Prosecution Service has confirmed a Mountie who pleaded guilty to assaulting a University of British Columbia student during a wellness check in Kelowna has received a conditional discharge and was placed on probation for two years. It says Const. Lacy Browning must also complete 160 hours of community service over the first year, and a $200 "victim fine surcharge" was also imposed.
