Charges Laid For Rental Fraud In Langley

Darpan News Desk, 18 Nov, 2019 08:03 PM
  • Charges Laid For Rental Fraud In Langley

Langley residents may recall a situation in June where a male was defrauding individuals of money as a ‘deposit’ on a rental property that was not actually available for rent.

The complainant had found the rental property through a classified advertisements website and made contact with the property reference to view the property.

The victim met him at a nearby coffee shop. He explained there were currently tenants in the residence and with new tenants named, they would be evicted. The complainant provided the first month’s rent.

After a few days, the complainant noticed the property was still advertised as available for rent. It was then they realized they had been defrauded.

Investigators were able to identify a possible suspect and subsequently charges have been laid. Jordan LUNNY, a 37 year old male from Langley has been charged with Fraud and providing a misleading receipt. He will next appear in Surrey Provincial Court on November 26th.

It is possible more people have fallen victim to a similar scam and not yet reported the situation to police. We would like to encourage those individuals to come forward and make a full report so investigators can follow through with any possible charges.
