Christy Clark Meets Justin Trudeau, Says B.C.'s Economic Engine Needs Cash From Ottawa

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 05 Feb, 2016 12:52 PM
VICTORIA — Premier Christy Clark says British Columbia is Canada's only economic bright spot and she wants Ottawa to back mega-projects such as a super hydro power connection between B.C. and Alberta.

Clark met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday in Ottawa.

She says B.C.'s economy is forecast to stay at the top but the province needs federal dollars to keep the growth engine running.

Clark says Ottawa should also put cash into the George Massey tunnel replacement project on the southern edge of Vancouver because the route moves billions of dollars of goods across Canada and into overseas markets.

She says she pitched Trudeau on plans to upgrade the hydro grid between B.C. and Alberta as a way to shut down Alberta's use of coal-fired power plants.

Clark says B.C. will apply for federal funding to help build the proposed billion-dollar power connection between the two provinces.
