Christy Clark Says Rachel Notley's Trip To B.C. To Promote Pipeline Took Courage

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 07 Dec, 2016 12:14 PM
VICTORIA — Premier Christy Clark says it took courage for her Alberta counterpart to come to British Columbia to promote Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.

Clark says Rachel Notley bravely came to B.C. this week to defend her province's views.

The $6.8-billion expansion would triple the capacity of the existing pipeline, which runs from near Edmonton to Burnaby, B.C., and increase tanker traffic seven-fold.

Clark says she is meeting with Notley on Friday in Ottawa, where the premiers and prime minister meet to discuss the environment and health care.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently announced federal approval of the pipeline project, saying it was in the national interest.

Notley met with provincial NDP Leader John Horgan while in B.C., but the two leaders of the same political party disagree on the pipeline as Horgan opposes the expansion.
