  • City of Surrey celebrates National Seniors Day with three days of activities
The City of Surrey proudly wrapped up three days of community events in honour of National Seniors Day, offering opportunities for older adults to connect, celebrate, and engage in healthy active aging.

The celebrations kicked off Oct. 1 with a special event at City Hall that brought together seniors, city staff, and community organizations to recognize the contributions of older adults and share information about age-friendly living.

The gathering featured community booths, educational resources, and a full lineup of cultural performances.

“National Seniors Day is about honouring the vital role seniors play in our families, neighbourhoods, and community,” Mayor Brenda Locke said. “It’s also a time to reflect on how we can all work together to challenge ageism, support inclusion, and ensure every senior in Surrey feels valued and respected.”

Free activities continued across Surrey, including cooking classes, a WALKit community walk, art sessions, and poetry readings, giving seniors opportunities to connect, share their talents, and engage with their community.

These celebrations are part of the City’s Age-Friendly Strategy and its Focus on Seniors initiative, which provide programs and services that help seniors stay connected, engaged, and active in the community.
