  • Collision on Highway 5 leaves 3 dead and 2 others in critical condition

CLEARWATER - RCMP say three people are dead and two others are seriously injured in a crash north of Kamloops, B.C.

Const. James Ward with the B.C. Highway Patrol says a report came in Wednesday morning about a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 5 just south of Clearwater.

Ward says multiple units responded to the crash site, where they found three people dead and two others in critical condition, but the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.

Highway patrol says initial reports indicate two pickup trucks travelling in opposite directions clipped one another, striking a third vehicle that spun out into a ditch.

Ward said the stretch of highway would be closed for several hours while a collision reconstruction team conducted an investigation.

Two other drivers were killed in separate crashes a week apart in early February on the same stretch of highway.

Need to prepare for more extreme weather: Blair
Blair says it's still too early to estimate how much it will cost to fix all the damage caused by the atmospheric river that hit B.C. earlier this month. The storm dropped nearly 300 mm of rain on some communities in southern B.C. in less than two days, washing out major highways and rail lines, and triggering mudslides that killed at least four people.
