Conservatives call for no-confidence vote by late January

Conservative MP Jonathan Williamson says he'll get the ball rolling early in the New Year on no-confidence vote that could bring down Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government in a little more than a month.

Williamson says in a social media post he will put forward his non-confidence motion at a public accounts committee meeting on Jan. 7.

He says the committee can debate it and then kick the motion over to the House of Commons to deal with when it returns on Jan. 27.

That could be voted on as early as Jan. 30, and could bring an immediate election if it passes.

Three non-confidence motions brought by the Tories failed in the fall.

However NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh now says he is ready to bring down the government in such a vote, following Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland's surprise resignation from cabinet

Uptick in homes sales in Vancouver

Realtors in Metro Vancouver say buyers are taking advantage of a relatively balanced market as the number of homes changing hands in November rose more than 28 per cent from the same month last year. Canadian among three climbers missing on New Zealand's highest peak

A Canadian is among three climbers missing after they'd planned to climb New Zealand's highest peak. A news release from the New Zealand Police says two Americans, Kurt Blair, 56, and Carlos Romero, 50, and the unnamed Canadian flew into Plateau Hut on Saturday morning and planned to summit Aoraki, also known as Mount Cook.
